

These days, Twitter is one of the best places to go for breaking news and information regarding the financial markets. It helps to have a list of people you can trust to give you great insights into what is happening in the world of stocks, commodities and forex. While these guys and these guys are a fantastic source of information for US markets, the following list is a who’s who of Australian financial market professionals. If you’re an Australian stock, option or forex trader, follow these people and stay on top of what’s happening in the Aussie markets.
1. Assad Tannous -Twitter Followers: 4,133 – @AsennaWealth
Assad Tannous is a clear number one for the list. He’s very active on Twitter and a leader in the finance industry. He founded Asenna Wealth Solutions after generating returns of 181% and 101% in CMC trading competitions. Definitely one to follow.
2. Chris Weston – Twitter Followers: 4,037 – @ChrisWeston_IG
Chris Weston is the Chief Market Strategies for IG in Australia. Chris is a POM but is one of the most popular people on Twitter that report on the aussie markets. He’s very friendly and always responds to questions.
3. Trade View – Twitter Followers: 557 – @TradeViewInvest
Trade View is a prop trading firm based in Melbourne and founded by gun trader Rob Bubalovski. Rob and his team trade stocks, forex, options and bonds on multiple exchanges around the globe. These guys basically never sleep. I’ve visited the Trade View offices and can assure you, these guys are the real deal.
4. David Scutt – Twitter Followers: 3,500 – @David_Scutt
David Scutt is an independent market strategist and the man behind www.marketscuttlebutt.com. He’s prolific on Twitter with over 11,000 Tweets and posts good insights and information.
5. Greg McKenna – Twitter Followers: 2,258 – @gregorymckenna
Greg McKenna is a real veteran of the markets having been involved since 1988. He’s a finance and economics reporter for Business Insider Australia. Tweets regularly and also shares helpful articles on what is driving the markets.
6. Michael McCarthy Twitter Followers: 8,990 – @MMcCarthy_CMC
Michael McCarthy is the Chief Strategist at CMC Markets. He’s also a guest lecturer at Macquarie University and is a regular on ABC, BBC, Bloomberg and SKY Business. Michael blogs at CMC Markets and focussing on currencies, commodities and major stocks. His insights are always worth listening to.
7. Brooke Corte Twitter Followers: 8,119 – @brookecorte
Brooke Corte is a Sky Business Australia reporter that is very active on Twitter. She provides up to the minute market updates and breaking news all delivered with a bit of humour. A titan of the industry and leader of the Australian business community on Twitter.
8. Ric Spooner – Twitter Followers:4,999 – @ricspooner_CMC
Ric Spooner is another CMC Markets professional who blogs on the CMC site and is active on Twitter. He has over 30 years experience and puts out some excellent analysis, via the blog and Twitter.
9. Ky Chow – Twitter Followers: 3,393 – @KyBusiness
Ky Chow is one of the most active of the group with over 20,000 tweets. He’s the man who started the popular #ausbiz hastag. He now also tweets for @financialreview.
10. Marcus Padley Twitter Followers: 1,766 – @Marcus_Today
Marcus Padley is a bit of a celebrity in the Australian markets and is probably the most well known stockbroker. Not sure how another POM snuck into the list, but we’ll forgive him. He’s been advising clients for 32 years and in 2008 was the Stockbrokers Association ‘Tipster of the Year’.
11. James Glynn – Twitter Followers: 6,115 – @JamesGlynnWSJ
James Glynn is a Senior Economics Reporter for Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal. James is great for providing a macro view on the economy and what that means for Australians. If you want to know what the Aussie dollar is doing, James is your man.
12. Peter Esho Twitter Followers: 2,738 – @PeterEsho
Peter Esho is the Managing Partner at 100 Doors Investment Management having recently joined them from Invast Securities. He’s also a regular contributor on Sky News Business, CNBC, Bloomberg, ABC News 24, Channel NewsAsia and BBC.
13. BBY Limited – Twitter Followers: 3,794 – @BBYltd
BBY Limited is a Private Client Advisory firm that operates in corporate finance, institutional sales and broker dealer services. They are always on top of what is happening in the Australian and global markets. BBY Limited runs a very popular and detail “Disruptive Lunch” series.
14. James Whelan Twitter Followers: 1,170 – @jameswhelan42
James Whelan is a Senior Relationship manager at a “fairly big bank”. He’s a worthy follow for keeping up with the markets and regularly replies to tweets. James keeps it light and you’ll always be entertained by his down to earth Aussie humour.
15. Michael Gable Twitter Followers: 454 – @GableMichael
Michael Gable is the Managing Director of Fairmont Equities and makes regular appearances on CNBC and Sky News Business. He’s also a contributor to Financial Review Smart Investor and the Financial News Network. To top it off, Michael is also the Director of the Australian Technical Analysts Association. Quite the go-getter.
16. CalibreInvest Twitter Followers: 460 – @CalibreInvest
Calibre Invest is a client advisory and funds management firm. Calibre Invest is headed up by Daniel Kriel and Werner Stals. These guys provide lots of great data points and charts to help you with your trading decisions.
17. Bullion Baron Twitter Followers: 1,860 – @BullionBaron
I’m not sure who is behind the Bullion Barron Twitter account, but he or she is very active on Twitter with 13,400 Tweets. You’ll get lots of tweets on commodities from the Barron, but also lots more about the current state of the Australian property market.
18. David Hunt @ PHG Twitter Followers: 1,204 – @profithuntergrp
David Hunt is a stock and commodity strategist and the man behind www.profithunters.com.au. David is a market timing and was called the “Advisor to the advisors” by Australian Men’s Living Magazine.
19. rob – Twitter Followers: 1,355 – @RobTTTrade
Rob is another great person to follow if you like someone who is active and always providing good information. With over 20,000 tweets you certainly won’t be short of ideas from Rob the trader / landscape gardener from Queensland.

Rob Jones is a senior capital markets professional with over 30 years experience. He’s very active on Twitter, mostly providing links to helpful articles on global markets. A good person to follow if you want to keep up to date with the latest financial market news.

Paul Harvey, aka the Aussie Share Man, is a “Family Man. Aussie Share Investor. Automotive Trainer & Assessor. Coach.” Loves his footy almost as much as he loves the markets.

Colin Twiggs is the director of Global Markets at Porter Capital and a former investment banker. He provide fantastic technical analysis on global equity markets, currencies and commodities. He doesn’t have a huge following on Twitter, but he has over 14,000 email subscribers to his website www.goldstocksforex.com.
